Who is responsible for customs duties when shipping global project Rewards?

In principle, overseas Supporters must pay customs duties and taxes incurred during the customs clearance process in their own country.

However, depending on the carrier, there are many cases where they request the conclusion of a transportation contract in a way that the Maker bears the customs duties.

In this case, we recommend that you, as the Maker, bear the customs duties and set the Reward amount or shipping costs by country/region in consideration of the customs duties.

✅ In principle, the subject of customs duty payment is the Supporter.

  • In principle, overseas Supporters must directly pay customs duties and taxes incurred during the customs clearance process in their own country/region.

  • Since the tax and customs duty imposition standards vary from country/region to country/region according to each country's customs regulations, overseas Supporters will bear this directly.

✅ In some cases, the Maker may bear the customs duties depending on the contract with the carrier.

  • It is important for the Maker to set the shipping cost by reflecting the customs duty burden in the Reward amount or the shipping cost by country/region.

  • When shipping to multiple countries/regions, it is recommended to set the shipping cost in consideration of the customs duty burden of each country/region.

  • If you are targeting a specific country/region to proceed with the project, you may set the Reward amount itself in consideration of the customs duties of that country/region. However, even in this case, domestic Supporters can participate in the project, so please keep this in mind.

✅ You must specify the subject of customs duty burden to the Supporter.

  • The Maker must clearly state the subject of customs duty burden in the 'Policy' tab in Maker Studio.

    • For example, you must specify "The Supporter is responsible for the customs duties of this Reward" or "The Maker is responsible for the customs duties."

  • Information on customs duty rates by country/region and item can be found at Korea International Trade Association (KITA), etc.
